GENTLE WITH MYSELF
GENTLE WITH MYSELF
A wonderful part of my recovery is learning to be gentle with myself. We used to be very critical and hard on ourselves. We like this new attitude we have adopted with ourselves and we seem nicer than we used to be. We treat ourselves more like we treat our friends. And, happy result, we don't get so depressed and angry.
We used to sink into an awful funk every time we made a mistake upset someone. Then we would agonize about all the neurotic habits we were passing on to our children. Now we see that the kinder and gentler we are with ourselves, the kinder and gentler our children are. They are happier, less irritable, and nicer to us, themselves and one another. Our new attitude is catching. We enjoy seeing them pick up our healthy traits.
The happier we are each day of our lives, the calmer they are. We no longer start our days together with fights, tears, and tantrums. When we do have conflicts, we are able to handle them without sinking into depression over our imperfections. We like this new way of living with ourselves and we like our new way of relating to our children.
I thank my higher power for being gentle with me and teaching me to be gentle with myself.
